This piece is based off of Solomon's writing in Ecclesiastes, specifically in the first chapter. Lyrics are the text, as posted below. Sorry for the lame Finale playback!
1 The words of the Teacher, [a] son of David, king in Jerusalem:
2 "Meaningless! Meaningless!"
says the Teacher.
"Utterly meaningless!
Everything is meaningless."
3 What does man gain from all his labor
at which he toils under the sun?
4 Generations come and generations go,
but the earth remains forever.
5 The sun rises and the sun sets,
and hurries back to where it rises.
6 The wind blows to the south
and turns to the north;
round and round it goes,
ever returning on its course.
7 All streams flow into the sea,
yet the sea is never full.
To the place the streams come from,
there they return again.
8 All things are wearisome,
more than one can say.
The eye never has enough of seeing,
nor the ear its fill of hearing.
9 What has been will be again,
what has been done will be done again;
there is nothing new under the sun.
10 Is there anything of which one can say,
"Look! This is something new"?
It was here already, long ago;
it was here before our time.
11 There is no remembrance of men of old,
and even those who are yet to come
will not be remembered
by those who follow.

This is an update to my post last week called "PE Jam 05/2010." As was said before, I just went with it and this is what came out.
A concept I've been looking at doing for a winter show is disease, particularly an epidemic. Something that could coincide with this topic would be high heart rate or even cardiac arrest, which is where "tachycardia" comes into play as a abnormally rapid heart rate of around 160 to 170 beats per minute.

I apologize for the lack of posts in the past month. My computer's hard drive crashed on me and I finally got it back a couple weeks ago and was able to download Finale 2011 a few nights ago. I lost a lot of files and information, but thankfully, I still have a good amount of my stuff in my head. The following is one of them.
Written around the time of finals, the purpose was intended for a percussion ensemble piece possibly for Beatrice's winter line. I realized halfway through that adding a drumset was for the better. Not sure where it's going now, but I'm going with it.

I come from a percussion background, so this duet between vibes and marimba shouldn't be too surprising. I wrote this (and am still working on it) beginning of the spring semester, but didn't really get much into it until around spring break. I'd been under a lot of stress.

Welcome to my first podcast! In general, most of the things I post will only be samples of things I'm working on and aren't quite finished just yet, unless otherwise noted.
This piece was originally written first of this four movement work for woodwind quintet earlier this fall. This just so happens to be finished. Enjoy!
