An update from last night. A rough "finished version" of the opener of the Apparatus show I've begun to work on. Look for more in the future.

With inspiration from Cavaliers' 2006 show and part of Norris' fall show, this is what came from it. There's some obvious restructuring that needs to happen with some of the parts instead of just building up with the percussion and unloading the fury of the machine right away. But I've been on a roll the past 2 days and refused to stop. Not nearly done, but what I have so far...

Well, I'm sure you all forgot that I had this podcast because obviously, even I had for a while. Hadn't really had anything appropriate to post the past few months. Until this came about...
This is an update on "Never Ending Blue" which has been renamed to (right now) "After It's Finished." This will eventually end up being the second movement of a three movement work based off of the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus. This is post mortem, perhaps the feelings of his mother Mary, or brother John, or any of the disciples.

In my theory class a while ago we had to write a piece using the same kind of technique Chopin did in his "Prelude in E minor." I received a 97% on the assignment but decided to continue on with the piece.

My freshman and junior years of high school, our winter line performed arrangements made by our instructor at the time to 2 songs by Tool. I liked the group and recently was listening to their song "Eulogy." So decided to try my hand at arranging and adapting (most if not all of everything I write is original). So this is it. All the battery parts are original. Front ensemble parts, in some form or another are related back to the song.

It's late, but I got on a roll through the end of this piece. Still in the sketching stages, but got a lot of ideas thrown out there and have a lot to work with as I continue to develop this show. Everything is original.
"We open with Nathan. A mere boy scout four years ago who has recently found himself lost in the woods at the age of seventeen. You'd figure he'd be well suited for this type of situation, however, there is something the scouts neglected to tell him...
He manages to get a fire going to keep himself warm throughout the night. It'll be easier to find out where he is in the morning. As he begins getting ready to get some sleep he starts hearing things; from his right, his left, and immediately behind him. He hears what seems to be thunder, but doesn't feel any raindrops. Again, something on his right moves; he swears something is there. Finally, deciding that he's just paranoid, Nathan lays down to slumber.
Suddenly, he feels an enormous shock and his fire is put out. Something is here! He leaps up trying to retrieve his flashlight as hasty forces seem to be coming from every direction. He desperately fumbles his light around before he eventually grabs it, shields his eyes and throws it in the face of whatever is that's after him. Trembling, Nathan looks up to see nothing in front of him. Something was there.
Too spooked to sleep, his heart thumping out of his chest, he tries to understand what just happened. Was it a bear? Why would it run off like that with nothing? It couldn't have been...someone?"

Lately, I've found myself to be in a somewhat depressing mood. One piece I'm working on consists of setting text from Lamentations 3 to baritone and piano, and if you've read any of it, you know how depressing it is. This is an effort to get something out that's not nearly as dark. It has no name yet, but I swear I've heard this melody before, somewhere. If you know, tell me. Enjoy.

The following is somewhat of an update from what I had posted last spring. Instead of hearing the computer playback of my piece "TREK: Hardships." It was performed recently on the Wet Ink recital at UNL. Also included is the fourth movement.
I cannot thank my performers enough. Very easy to work with and just awesome people. Boom!
